The spirit of the desert is the shadow of a bird gliding over red earth,
floating on the updraft just ahead of me.
I pulled an inch of mesquite thorn from my shoe, listening to the thunder and the easy difference between a hawk and a vulture.
A horse that is spooked, dying of feeling;
isolated by fever and heat,
stories of countries or companies,
expectations of perfection.
Change your behavior.
This clock tracks time
beyond what I wish to acknowledge
and the dream dog somehow retrieved
the remnants of a deer.
A leg and hoof.
Just the bones.
Unidentifiable when removed from the source. Another spirit that flew away.
Like life itself.
